About

“One Mic Records” a independent HipHop/RnB/Raggae label which was formed in 2007 with the help of a W.I.N.Z grant. The “Enterprise Grant” was granted to Toko Manuel a member of Recommended Dosage to help support his group and many more up and coming artist. Producing a business plan on how the company will operate sealed the deal for One Mic Records. The staff from the label got to work with the first album release in Novemeber 2007 “Durty Bounce” the mixtape. The release party was held at Rising Sun in Auckland with local support acts that helped promote the album. 500 units were pressed and 200 were sold independently at the release party.  The CD featured local artist’s Dangerous Goods, Cutz Both Waze, Alter Ego, Crooks International, plus Obsolete and Ramzee from Otara. The One Mic craze had begun.

In 2008 the label was ready to plan the year. Setting up a store at the mangere markets that sold tshirts and cds to help fund more projects to come. Selling the remainder 300 Durty Bounce CDs independently the label could invest into another project as well as more tshirts to help promote the label. The team got to work on the 2nd CD from Recommended Dosage’s Cyclone “Thugarilla” produced a written by him. After many days and hours in the studio the product was ready to be promoted. 500 units were made and a small tour was put together for the release in Auckland and Hamilton. 150 units sold in Auckland and 200 units were sold in Hamilton.

In 2009 as soon as the tour finished the label started to organize events to promote up and coming artist. The staff at One Mic Records created a gig called “The Eclipse” which was one of the biggest monthly events in Auckland city. The event consisted of artist all around Auckland from the North Shore, East, West and South Auckland who got together for the love of NZ hiphop. One Mic Records then funded the compilation CD with a free downloadable link that today has over 2000 downloads. The team at the label had slowly built up their brand and were ready to start a new project.

The label then started to work on Recommended Dosage with a 2 year plan. The team decided on 3 CD’s from the group, a Mixtape a EP then the album. The Mixtape called “Rec Dose” was recorded and ready to promote in May 2010 which sold 350 units at a Auckland release party. Next project was the Recommended Dosage E.P after 6months of studio time the E.P was ready with leading single “Waist Poppers”. The label funded the video then started to put a tour together for Recommended Dosage to promote the EP. 500 units were pressed 150 units sold in Auckland 200 units sold in Hamilton and 150 units in Tauranga Mount Maunganui.

Now the mixtape and E.P are done the team have been sourcing beat makers and producers to work with for the Recommended Dosage album “Tricks Of The Trade” teaming up with DJ Montana he had the sound the group were looking for and got to work straight away. The first street single “We Got What Yah Need” with a beat courtesy of Los Angeles D.I.Y King, Mykill Miers has started to create its online buzz via facebook and twitter.

After releasing the single, the group with help from the label were granted a NZ ON AIR grant for their 3rd single (Product Of Society) feat “Jverse” which will be hitting the airwaves after there next single “We All In” feat “Tha Movement” (StateHouse Records). All the hard work has slowly paid off and the team are all excited about the release of “Recommended Dosage’s” album “Tricks Of the Trade”.

Whats next for One Mic Records? Raggae artist “JahWest” come to the table with a E.P that is ready to be promoted this year with his first single “Tribute” getting air play on all the iwi stations in New Zealand. Video is also in the making for the single so watch out for his unique style of digi raggae. We are also currently working with RnB/Hiphop artist “Jverse” who has just finished recording his mini tape “JVerse Is Here” ready to be promoted under the labels banner. His first single feat E.N.D “Auckland City All Day” is already getting alot of positive feed back so the label got together to help out with his first video for the song. The label is looking forward to working on albums for “JahWest” and “Jverse”…  this year is going to be crazy for One Mic Records.
